A Walk in the Woods
The story continues shortly after Boy’s heart breaks.
By Spring of 2021 I needed to make some money. A friend from my carney days hooked me up with a gig driving a “mobile marketing display” around Nashville.
I took my songs with me.
Nashville was exciting but intimidating. The talent and the clear sense of direction everyone swaggered around with made me acutely aware of my insecurities. I was just another guy rolling into town with a couple songs folded up in his guitar case.
At one point I was introduced to a producer. We’d grab a beer or whatever. I showed him my tunes. He seemed genuinely interested and said he’d like to help me record them.
We set a date to record. I paid him a deposit for the studio time and the band. My friend’s little brother (now my friend), Dillon, who was in film school at the time, flew up with his cameras so we could make a cool video out of the session.
The guy bailed the morning of our scheduled session and ran with the deposit money. He stiffed me. It was disappointing to say the least.
But Dillon and I decided to play a little jazz with the day to salvage our time together. We bought a rug at Target and found a spot out in the woods on the edge of Nashville at Percy Warner Park.
Dillon pointed his cameras and I played my tunes.
You can watch the video on YouTube here.
I also threw that Layla cover on there.
Feelin’ Fine EP Update
We did it! We raised $7,948. We reached our goal. And then some. I hope when you hear the music you can feel proud of your contribution.
It’s difficult to express my gratitude to all of you who supported your hard-earned dollars and to those who encouraged me with your words throughout this campaign. I will try to in my next letter. For now, all I can say is thank you.

p.s.
The dollars from the campaign have already been put to work. I’ve been in the studio recording the last three days with some of Austin’s finest musicians. Don’t worry, this producer has not run off with all the money! The sessions were a blast. I cannot wait to share this music with you all. Man, it sounds good. These musicians breathed so much life into the tunes. I am so blessed to get to work with these guys.
Sincerely,
Caswell
